LEVIN C.C. t. FOXTON CO. This match was played yesterday at i Levin, and resulted in the defeat of the visiting team by 2S runs. The weather I was splendid, and the wielderi of the j willow had a most enjoyable time. In the i first inning* the fielding of both teams was 1 particularly good, and the bowling was . meritorious. The number of " duok eggs " j on both sides may be accounted for in some I measure by the roughness of the pitch, j wbioh not even the judgment of charity ! could consider good. A good pitch is ! wanted at Levin almost as maoh as iv Foxton. Tlio mo9t sucoessfal batsmen for Lovin were Lancaster (23), Ayrey (21), and Bul'.h (16) ; for Fox ton Betty (16), Ingram, Harrison, and Warner (each 6.) As we have already .said, . the bowling on both sides wa« strong; but two trandlers specially distinguished themselves. Lyall'l record in ihe second innings, 4 wickets for 2 runs in 3 overs, was particularly good, as also was that of A very for Levin, 4 wickets for 8 runs in 2 overs and 1 ball extra, space prevents onr giving detail! of the brilliant catches and difficult bid of fielding that were much in evidence and duly applauded throughout. We have room to add only that Messrs G. Rogers and F. Hanson umpired respectively for j Levin and Foxton, and that in no instance were their decisions disputed; tad the visitors were entertained in right hospitable cricket fashion at the Levin Hotel by the looal players.
