New Flax Machine.
Messrs T. Branton and Co., of IVi-nlieim, have invented a machine lot- dressing N.Z. flax. The great point) nbout the new machine is that h scnipes the fibre instead of smashing it, as was done by the old machir.r-. The fibre produced by the inachiue give?, in the scutching, only one cwfc of tow to the ton, which means a great saving. Also, its fibre, when manufactured, would be of superfine quality, commanding an improvement in price of 803 or £2, even at the present low state of the market. The machine will compete for the Government bonus of £1750 in March next. One firm, igents for an American connection, writes of the fibre turned out by this machine : "Wa find that it is a very good article, and not broken in the crushing. The only defect, which you can rectify, is the straw. We are prepared to contract with you for your whole output." — People.
