A Lady's Letter.
WxLUßftToir, Oot, 81, 1896. II turned oat a nice fine day last Wednesday, whan Miss Laura Fisher, eldest daughter of Mr George Fisher, wat married to Mr J. W. Mathieaon, of the Auokland branch of the Bank ' of New Zealand. Shortly before three o'clock St. Paul's pro Cathedral wm crowded with guests and specta ton. The church was very prettily decorated for the occasion, and the ' knot 'was tied under a hugs arch of arum lillies and other white flower*. At three o'clock, the bride entered the church leaning on her father's arm, and was looking very handsome in a lovely gown of paarl brocaded silk trimmed with chiffon frills, pearls and sprays of lillies of the valley, the train was long and eat square. The usual wreath of orange blossoms and tulle veil was wen, very becomingly arranged, tad the huge shower bouquet was really a work of ait. There were fix bridesmaids, the Misses Marion Fisher and Lizzie Mathieson, who wore very pretty white spotted sraslin gowns, the fichu shappd frills were trimmed with lace insertion, through which was run orange coloured b6be ribbon, very large white hats trimmed with white tips and sprays of yellow rose 3 ; and tba Misses Morris, Howie, and Williams (2) Who looked very 6weet in whi.e muslin frocks trimmed with satin ..ribbon and lace, and tiny Juliet caps of white satin edged with pearl?, and each carried white crooks tied with the Italian colours, red, white and green. The bridegroom presented the two elder bridesmaids .with gold bangles set with topaz, pearls and amctbjils, and to the four little ones
Ihe gave gold brooches with the initial "M" in pearls. The bride's mother was wearing a very handsome gown of black merveilleaux trimmed with jet and sleeves of white 6a tin under black lace, bonnet to match ; Mrs Mathieson (mother of the bridegroom) wore thick black silk with handsome jet trimming, black bonnet with white tij.ped ospreya and ribbon. Other guests were— The Premier and Mrs Seddon, the latter wearing black silk and lace, and pretty black and gold bonnet trimmed with cornflower blue tulle and osprcys ; Mr and Mrs W. Fisher, Mr and Mrs G. Fißher, the latter wearing a stylish black canvas dress made over a blue siik lining, and pretty vest of cream silk lace, large black hat with roses and ribbon bows ; Mra Howie, cornflower blue gown, trimmed with white silk and gold paseemente/ie, small gold bonnet with blue flowers; Mra Tolhurst, black striped Bilk gown with lace epaulettes, yellow lace bonnet with flowers ; Miss Tolhurst, light mauve and white check gown trimmed with silk to match, pretty toque of cream lace, shot ribbon cud mauve flowers ; h3r sifter wore a very pretty pale green and white costume ; Mrs Stafford, black silk with jet embroidery, pretly black bonnet with forget-me-nots ; the Misses Stafford wore very pretty white costumes ; Mrs Marshall, very stylish black crepon gown trimmed with Batin ribbons and jet, black bonnet trimmed with ceviße and pink ; Mr and Mrs B. M. Simpson, Mr and Mrs J. Prouse, Miss Edwards, in very light grey silk with bodice cf green silk, hat to match ; Mr and Mrs R. B. William?, Mr and Mrs T. H. Ritchey, the latter in a handsome brown mervilleaux costutna ; Miss Ritchey, cream muslin ; j Mr and Mrs Martin, Mr and Mrs Page, Mr and the Misses Seed, Mrs Hickson, Miss Tuckey, in a pretty I pale pink and white striped gown, j largo white hat with pink rose 3, and j black velvet bows ; the Misses Blair, : Young, Scully, Hialop, Johnson, j Allen and others. The bride's going j away costume was cf blue ribbed , cloth, with white waistcoat, hat to i match. Alter the ceremony, a very j pleasant afternoon tea was given by : Mr and Mrs Fisher at their residence. I Again the tennis people have been ! disappointed, for it has been wet and ! windy all day, so that the opening of the Thorndon Tennis Club has again to be postponed. In all probability it will be opened during the ooming week. There is to be a very large Bicycle Race- Meeting, to be held on ihe Exhibition Track on the 9th. I hear that nearly 200 entries have been received, so there will be something worth seeing. Siona.
