The Paris Cyclone.

(took odb own cobbespondent.) Paris, 16th Sept., 1896. Paris was visited by quite a tornsio en the 10th inst at about 4 p.m. It had rained during the night and the day began with a cloudy iky, rain beginning to fall about 10 o'clock. Shortly after noon ft heavy shower oame down, lasting almost uninterruptedly until about two o'clock, with a very little wind blowing. At a quarter past four a whirlwind swept along the river, and caused in less than twenty minutes gmt damage, and not only serious accidents to life and limb, but even killing several parsons. Many were struck down by falling trees, chimneys, lamp-posts and tiles. The fury of the blast was concentrated upon the neighbourhood of the Pont Neuf, the Place du Chatelet and the Plaot de ftotre Dame; In several instances cabs and even omnibuses wtro upset and broken, and their pasteogera more or less severely injured ; many drivers were actually blown from their seats, carried a distance, and, in striking the pavement, were either killed on tbe spot, or bo badly injured as to necessitate their being conveyed to the hospital. The shipping and floating baths on the river suffered severely, and the number of trees uprooted and broken, as well as the broken window panes, i* enormous. -

To add to the horror of the scene, the torrential rains caused numerous inundations. In the west and north of the city nothing was heard of tbe storm. The rainfall there was one of the greatest that there haa been in Paris for a long time, but there tras nothing remarkable about the wind.
