The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company report for tha week ending 23rd October:— W OO l — Since our last report we have received cable advice of the closing of the fifth series of wool sales in London, whioh has been duly pub lished, and ueed not, therefore, be repeated. The information conveyed was not, however, reassuring, tut since then more satisfactory intelligence has come to hand, and the prospects are distinctly better. Hemp—A distinctly b.-tter feeling prevails, aud we have succeeded in placing some good lines during the weak at satisfactory rates. We quote : G.f.a.q., £10 10s, f.0.b. ; other qualities in proportion. Wheat — There has been considerable ex citement in the wheat market of the world siuce last report, but a quieter feeliug now prevails, and p. ices are somewhat easier. Holders are very firm, aud we are satisfied current values will be well maintained foi* some time. Locally all c asses have advanced Id to l^d per bushi-1. We quotes good fowl wheat, 8s 6d to 3a 7d ex store, sacks extra. Oats - These firmer, and an advance in va'ues is reported from the South. Locally business is restricted, and only small pare ]s are changing hands. We quote prime short stout feed, 2s Id 10 2b 2£d, sacks in, ex store. Potatoes— 'l he market is very strong, and as stocks in the South are almost depleted, price* are likely to be well mainlined until the new crop is fairly on the market. Current quotations for table Derwenta are : 80d to 85s, sacks iv ex wharf.
