— l This afternoon will conclude the c first round of the two tournaments — Ladies' and Gentlemen's Singles, in which members of the local club are now taking part. So far the games played have not proved exciting or the finishes so close to make tbem interesting. The * drawing for the second round will, ' however, bring forth good opponents, and some first-class games will re- £ suit. * On Oct. 18th Mr Hamer beat Mr ; Eure, both starting level, by 9 points. Result, 50-41. • On Oct. 19th liias Purcell giving • her opponent, Miss Easton 14 pointa, 1 won by 8 points. Result, 80—27. • On Oct 20 :h Mrs Cook beat Miss ' L. Austin, starting level, by 17 ' point*. Result, 80-18. « On Oct. 21st Mr C. Austin de- j feated Mr Rhodes (5 points start) by * 12 pointß. Result, 60—88. On Oct. 23rd Mrs Stewart defeated Miss O'Brien (4 points start) by 14 points. Result, 80—16. On Oct. 24th Mr Cook beat Mr Wilkinson (15 points start), by 19 points. Result, 50-81. On Oct. 27th Mr Curtis beat Mr Gower (10 points start), by 9 points. Result, 50—41. Two ladies' singles and one gentleman's single still remain unplayed, but the winners will be known this afternoon, to day being the last day on which the first round i was to be completed. The local club has received word , from the Sandon Club that the re- . turn match will take place shortly at Foxton, the Sandon players having only just now been able to get their i court into playing order. Besides the two excellent gra?s [ courts the Otaki Club possess, they , are going in for another, this last , one to be of asphalt or similar to , the wooden court at Levin.
