The Times states that, at Great Britain's invitation, Russia, Austria and France are likely to unite in compelling the Sultan to carry out the reforms demanded in the government of Turkey. Sir William Vernon Harcourfc, in a letter, expresses regret at Lord Rosebery's resignation of the leadership of the Liberal Party, and denounces the newspapers for accusing him (Sir Wm. Harcourt) of hostility and rancorous feeling towards so amiable and distinguished a statesman. Sir William Vernon Haroourt had a great meeting at St. James' Hall, called for the promotion of the establishment of an Anglo-Armenian Association. A resolution- was carried denouncing the action of the Sultan of Turkey, and appealing to the Powers to use every means possible in insisting on reforms. Admiralty experts have tested some Tasmanian compressed cabbage, carrots and turnips at Deptford. They report the appearance of the stuff to be poor ; that the articles are tasteless, tough and difficult to cook. Their opinion is that the goods are decidedly inferior to the French and German products. It is reported that Dr Jameson and Colonel Willoughby, now serving their sentences in connection with the Transvaal raid, will shortly be released on the score of ill-health.
