Africa.
At a meeting of 130 Mafcabele chiefs at Indaba, Lord Grey, administrator of the British South Africa Company, offered them salaries to control their districts with the assistance of the white men. The assembled chiefs expressed their delight at the offer made, and profusely thanked Mr Cecil Rhode 3 for what he had done for them. News from Matabeland states that the induas declare that peace is assured and firm since the white men have offered the natives a helping hand. The strike among the native miners in the Rand, who demanded an increase of pay, is collapsing.
