The Murder at Ohoka.

The adjourned inquest on the human remains found at Ohoka on September 14th was held at Eaiapoi on Mdnday. The evidenoe of Drs Parsons and Seynes showed that there were four distinct fractures of the skull, and traces of blood wore found in the hair and on deceased's shirt. The remains were found in a gone hedge on January 5 on White's land. There is a hut about 200 yards away, which, for several year?, has been used by swaggers. The police theory is that deceased, while staying in this hut with other swaggers, was murdered, and hte body placed where it was found. No definite evidenoe as to identification was forthcoming. It had been ascertained that a Ufa insurance policy, the renewal notice in respect of which was found on the body, was issued to a man named Ohlsen. Ohlsen's father lives at Sydney, and has received no news of his son for gome considerable time, but whereas Ohlsen is 29 years of age, the police art of opinion the' man whose body had been found was about forty years of age. The jury, after a brief retirement, returned a verdict: — "That the deceased (unknown) bad been murdered by a person or persons unknown, and that the body had afterwards been placed where fouod." The jury also suggested that the contents of the swag should be carefully washed and preserved for identification ; and that the Government should offer a substantial reward for the conviction of the murderers. — Press Association.
