The Queen.
Yesterday made the reoord of the longest reign in English history, for Oar Gracious Sovereign has reigned for fifty nine years and ninety-eight days. May God preserve her. Her Majesty succeeded to the throne on 20th June, 1887, and is the sixth monarch of the House of Hanover, being the daughter of Edward, the fourth son of George 111. It may bear repeating that George II was the only son of George I and George the 111 was the grandson of George 11, and George the IV was the eldest son of George 111, and William IV waa the third son and our Queen is a granddaughter of the same king. The next longest reign was that of the Queen's grandfather, George 111, whose record is 59 years and 97 days, and the next longest ia that of Henry 111, the eldest Bon of King John, who reigned for 66 years, and Edward 111 who reigned 50 years. These monarchs belonged to the House of Plantagenet.
