The Armenians have been provoked to serious rioting in the Turkish capital, and many persons have been killed.
The rioting began in Galata, the Urge3t suburb of Constantinople on the north side of the Golden Horn, and, failing to reach the Palace, the Armenians stormed the Ottoman Bank, killing the gendarmes who were guarding it.
The Ottoman Bank was defended for many hours, and ultimately its occupants were conveyed away on board Vincent's yacht, which will probably be expelled from the Bos phorous. The Armenian Patriarch has excommunicated the leader of the trouble.
After fighting all day and losing half their number, the Armenian rioters offered to surrender if allowed to proojed to England, otherwise they would destroy the bank by dy namite and kill the hostages. The Government accepted these terms and the rioters were escorted on board the yacht by British sailors. A band of Moslems, who were furious at the Armenian reprisals and armed with iron clubs and other weapons, paraded the streets and massacred every Armenian seen, estimated at from 2000 to 4000.
