Fish Preserving

Again referring to the establishment of a preserving plant being set up in this town, we may mention now that the firm who are considering the matter are the St. George Preserving Company, who are Well known, as the largest and wealthiest company in this line in the colony. We do bope Vuat those who are not overburdened with work will make some effort to meet the company on fair lines, aa the establishment of such an industry in the district would be the means of distributing a large amount of foreign capital amongßt us, which We at present very much need. If the company start, the inducement is necessarily the whitebait ; but if they start they will brobably remain, and then game and fruit will be required to keep them going. We are. willing to do all we can to assist the venture, and would willingly meet possible fishers to consider the question of supply. It must be remembered that for three months the whitebait will be in the river, and boys and men thus would have a considerable time to augment their earnings by the catch of these fish. It would be suicidal to the town if sucb an opportunity is to be let slip simply from indifference, and we think the business men of the town should stir themselvea to urge persons to catch both the opportunity and the whitobait.
