In early times tho Molucca or Spice Islands were the most highly valued of the East Indian islands, because of the product that gives them their name. Abput 200 years ago the Dutch, who own the islands, deliberately cut down nearly all the apico trees in ordor to limit the product and thereby greatly increase the price.
