Jacob Gaudaur, the Canadian sculler, has accepted the challenge issued to him by James Stanbury, who recently beat C. R. Harding in the world's championship match on the Thames Biver, to a race for the sculling championship of the world and £1000 a side,
The race will take place on the Thames early in September.
The House of Commons has passed the second reading of the Uganda Railway Bill by a majority of 150. Mr Curzon, Parliamentary Secretary to the Foreign Office, replying to Mr Labouchere, said that if England did not open a railway from the coast to the lakes Germany would be certain to undertake the work.
A Parliamentary Committee has been appointed to enquire into the changes deeirable in the government of the Chartered Company's territory.
