Invitations have been extended to Australia and New Zealand asking them to take part in the Brussels International Exhibition of 1897.
The workshops of Messrs Harland and "Wolff, Limited, at Queen's Island, Belfast, have been destroyed by fire.
Several large vessels have been damaged, and the adjacent engine works destroyed. The fire throws 4000 men out of work.
The damage is estimated at £200,---000.
At a meeting of the World's Socialist Workers in Lond>n, 700 delegates were present.
Resolutions were passed demanding the recognition of eight hours as the working day and the universal suffrage.
