Wedding.
This morning a very pleasing wedding ceremony was celebrated at All Saints' Church, when Miss Whyfce, eldest unmarried daughter of the late Mr A. J. Whyte, was / married to Mr Edward P. Cowles, of the Telegraph Department. The church was crowded to view the ceremony, and the day being ■ ! beautiful, a very gay and pleasing | scene was presented. The Rev. Geo. Aitkens performed the service, a choral one, ably assisted by the choir. Mr England presided at the organ and played a Processional March on the bride entering the church, and • the Wedding March on the married ; conple leaving the building. The ! choir sang during the service the hymns " The Voice that Breathed • o'er Eden," and "How Weloome was the Call." The bride was given away by her grandfather, Mr James Taylor, and ■was attired in a very becoming dress ; ! of white flowered silk poplin trimmed ! with chiffon and watared-ailk. She I wore the cu3lomary white bridal fall of ; silk tulle, and a handsome gold brooch, the gifo of the bridegroom. The bridegroom was accompanied by his brother, Alfred, as best man. The bridesmaids, four, were the Miasea Vera Cowles and Katie Whyte, who wore pink cashmere dresses trimmed with pink silk, and black Trilby hata with pink silk Tarn O'Shanter crowns, and the Misses Quinice Cowles and Elsie McMillan, who were dressed in cream serge trimmed . with white far, and Tarn O'Shanter : hats of white velvet. The bridesmaids also wore gold brooches, the. gift of the bridegroom Mrs Whyte, mother of the bride, wore a terracotta satin richly trimmed with - black lace, with bonnet to match. Mra Cowles, mother of the bridegroom, wore a black serge trimmed with white satin and jet, with bonnet to match. Mrs Taylor, the grandmother of the bride, wore black silk merveilleaux. with bonnet to match. The bride's travelling dress was of fawn tweed richly trimmed with . beaver and silk, and brown straw hat trimmed with osprey feathers and velvet After the ceremony the friends of - the family were entertained at after* ■: noon tea at Mrs Wbyte's residence. The bride and bridegroom left about three o'clock for Shannon to catch the evening train to Welling- .., ton for their new home in Austin*. """ street. The best wishes of all their friends in town go with them, as the young couple are well known and well liked. We desire to convey to Mr and Mrs Cowles our best wishes for their future health and happiness, During the day flags were flown in town, and the Queen of the South at the wharf had all her bunting displayed. There were a very large number of presents from friends far and near, of which the following are some :- Cheque and organ, Bible, silver cruet, china dinner service, I silver butter dish, silver teapot, silver jam dish, breakfast cruet, ! to&st rack, butter dish and cruet
combined, ink stand, china biscuit barrel, china tea seti cosey, \olumo of "Round the World," Japanese trayi two pair of vases* glass jug and butter dish, flowed epergne, pair fruit dishes and pair jam dishes, glass salad bowl, tea cosy, three silver bread forks, three silver jam spoons, three silver butter knives, four eggshell saltsellars, jelly mould, foorjnata, painting of jonquils, sardine" dish, pair bread platters, salt - cellirs, silver sugar bowl and silver tea strainer, splasher, cheque, teachers' Oxford Bible, £-doz. des. knives, do. spoons, do. forks, do. dinner knives, do. tea spoons, do. dinner forks, two books of Tennyson and Cassell's (from choir), glass sugar basin, jug and plate, tortoise shell hair brush, two dessert plates, silver cake stand, silver pickle jar and backet, etc.
