Alleged Embezzlement.

Edward George Cox was oharged at the Wanganui Police Court on Thursday morning, before Messrs J. A. Krull and J. H. Keesing, J.s P., on two charges of embezzlement — in the first oase of £181 03 5d and in the secnod £244 143 6d— of moneys of the Manawatu County Council. Sergeant Cullen asked for a remand till the 23rd, as the solicitor for the Crown was unable to take the case up that day. Mr Treadwell, who appeared for the accused, had no objection to the remand, but asked that tail be allowed. Sergeant Cullen itated that the Justices at Bulls, before whom the accused was first brought, had fixed the bail at £200 in his own recognisance and two sureties of £800 each. Mr Tread* well asked that the sureties be reduced to £200 each, a3 the accused could secure that amount, but the Bench could not sea their way to redace it.
