Rinderpest is proving a serious difficulty to transport to Buluwayo and almost prohibits supplies being sent. There is a fresh outbreak by numerous bands of natives at Umtali, and in the neighbourhood of Fort Salisbury. Dr Leyds, the Transvaal Secretary of State, has cabled to the British Government to the effect that the welfare and peace of Africa requires that Cecil Rhodes should be brought to trial for the part he has taken in connection with the recent disturbances. - He adds that the best proofs are in possession of Mr Chamberlain which justify and should compel him to take action. Dr Leyda also, expresses regret at the delay that is taking place in making enquiry into the raid, and further urges that the British South Africa Company should be deprived of civil control. M. B. de Kofte, one of the Judges of the Criminal Courb of Transvaal, suspended by President Kruger, who believed that the Judge was bribed by Lionel Phillips, one of the Reform leaders, has been acquitted on the charge of misconduct, but was censured for conduct unbecoming a Judge. The new outbreak in Mashonaland is spreading rapidly and the position is serious, owing to the isolation of homesteads. I
So far nine white people have been murdered. The Muzoe settlers have be«n ordered into the laager at Fort Salisbury. The Chartered Company's mounted men, also 200 of the Cape mounted men, have been ordered to proceed to Mashonaland, via Beira. The columns headed by Major Beale and Captain Spreokley have been ordered to Fort Salisbury, and the Imperial troops at Mafeking proceed to Macloutsie.
