CONDENSED CABLEGRAMS.
London. Only three of those' who were on board the steamer Drummond Castle are known to have been saved. Two seamen who escaped clung to a basket and plank, and drifted about for ten hours, when they were rescued by fishermen. A passenger was the third survivor. The trial of Dr Jameson, Sir John Willoughby, Colonel White and his brother, Colonel Grey and Major Coventry, committed for trial in connection with the raid on the Rand, is to take place in the High Court of Justice. It is reported by way of Jamaica that Venezuelan troops have entered the disputed territory and compelled the British surveyors to retire. The raid is looked upon as a grave matter. The Drummond Castle was travelling at the rate of 14 miles an hour when she struck, and she sank in 20 fathoms of water. The eogineors prevented explosion of the boilers by letting off the steam. — The Bishop of London has presented the Bishop of Marlborougb, one of his suffragan bishops, with the rectorate of Saint Botolphs, worth £3000 per year. This action is being much criticised, and local protests are being entered against it.
