Italy and France are negotiating for a commercial treaty. Eight hundred cases of cholera are reported as having occurred during - the past week in Cairo. ■„•■ Servia has called upon the Port* to officially recognise its indepen* dence, as has been done for Bulgaria and Greece. One hundred and fifty shooks of earthquake were experienced in SO hours in the northern provinces of the prinoipal island of Japan. The eruptions were followed by a tidal wave. Several towns and. villages were destroyed, and the loss of life was enormous, over 1000 people being killed. * The town of KuraaMshi has been destroyed.
