PALMERSTON v. FOXTON. The Palmerston team 'arrived by the 1.30 train this afternoon to play the cup match with the local club. The visitors alighted at the racecourse where the match was played, members of the local club being in strong force to meet them. A good number of persons paid for admission to witness the match. Play was commenced about 2 p.m. and it was soon evident a hard game would be played for supremacy. The following are the names of the players : — Foxton— Full-back, H. Lyall ; three quarters, P. Robinson, B. Robinson, W. Mclntyre ; halves, B. Wallace, D. Gardner ; wings, A. Symons, F. Warner ; forwards, A. Shadbolt (capt), W. Liddelj, R. Wallace, J. Desmond, 0. Robinson, J. Webster, J. Lee. Palmerston. — Wings, Pike (capt.) and De Leun; forwards, Matheson (2), Ypnng, Whiffen, Otterson, Bell, and Lilley; halves, Butler and Prendergast ; three-quarters, Hewitt (2), and Keeling ; full - back, Weight.. Palmerston kicked off, and shortly after the commencement of ' the game Wallace got a mark for Fozton and from which a goal almost resulted by Desmond, the ball just falling short by a few feet. The Foxton men were playing very determinedly, and Robinson getting possession ran towards the posts and kicked a beautiful goal. The Palmerston men had some luck towards the end of the spell, one of their men kicking a goal from the field, thus equalising the scores, 4 points each. The only scores in Che second spell were Palmerston 11, Foxton nil, Palmerston eventually winning by 16 to 4. The Palmerston men showed their superiority in passing, and the Foxton men only lacked similar play. Mr 0. Gardner made a capable referre, and Messrs Little and Fake line-umpires.
