The Queen and the Marquis ot Salisbury have sent messages to the King of Italy, thanking him and the Government and the people of Italy for the splendid reception accorded to the British fleet. Lord Hopetoun, ex-Governor of Victoria, is mentioned as a likely successor to Lord Dufferin as British Ambassador in Paris. Dr Jameson, Sir John Willoughby, Colonel White and hig brother, Colonel Grey and Major Coventry have been committed for trial. The rest of Dr Jameson'a officers were discharged. Parliament adjourns on August 44, and will meet again on January 18. The Government programme is not altered, and the present intention is that the new session will close immediately the Bills are passed.
