The Health Resort

Mr B. Baker, the Commissioner of Crown Lands remained behind to-day to inspect the lite on the beach which the Government have been asked to lease at a health resort. The Mayor, Cr Hennessy, and Mr Walter Robinson, accompanied him to select a site and confer as to sizes of allotments, Ac. The Government, we understand, are-wfliing to do what is asked in this matter.

On arriving on the ground it was found by Mr Baker that the principal site belonged to the Macawatu Railway Company. The boundaries of the pilot reserve not being dearly marked Mr Baker promised to send up a surveyor to define them, and he asked the Mayor to arrange to meet the surveyor on the ground and select a suitable site. In course of conversation Mr Baker said that should the matter be left for the Government to deal with they would only be able to grant leases for a term of 21 years. Foxton Borough Council as the Council would be able to lease in longer terms as might ba desired. It would also enable th« Borough, the land being a Borough reserve, to spend part of the income derived from other Borough reserves in planting and improving this property at the Heads.
