Foxton Borough Council.

The usual monthly meeting of the above Council was held at the Library buildings yesterday at 2 p.m. Preaent— The Mayor Nye), Gra. Walsh, Osborne, Border, Bradcock, Hennessy, and Westwood. The following correspondence wat read : — From Under - Secretary Publio Works stating that Mr McKerrow^^ had reported on the Levin-Greatford^^" railway that it would not be advantageous to entertain the project for the present. 0. T. D. Petersen and A. Perreau requesting a change of names on ratebook. Municipal Association of N.Z., stating the conference of delegates will take place on Monday, 220 d June, at 10 a.m. J. McKerrow (telegram), In company of other Land Purchase Comumsionera I will arrive in Fox ton on Tuesday, 2nd June, by morning coach from Shannon, for the purpose of inspecting Motoa Estate. I shall ha glad to meet you. S. Howan, applying for site for building a steam launch on bank of river. Poundkeeper'a Report.— ln April, 18 horses and 81 cowa, and in May, 13 horses and 31 cows were im« pounded. Meiira G. Coley and P. Dudion waited on the Council to ask why the rents of the mill sites had bean raised from £1 to £5. Tho rent having been reduced to £1 when flax was low. The Clerk read the resolution made in 1894, which reduced the rent to £1 for one year only. Or Oaborne proposed and Cr Walsh seconded That the Council go into committee vt the request of Messrs Dud son and Coley. Agreed to. On the Council resuming th« fol« lowing resolutions were carried:— Proposed by Cr Hennessy, seconded by Cr Bradcock, That Messrs Coley and Dudson's request that all ' arrears of mill rent be charged £1 a year be granted, also that £1 a year be charged as rent for the year 1896---07, which must be paid in advance olherwi3e they will be charged the i £5 the original amount. I Mr Dudson again called in and referred to a letter from the clerk and uaed a remark that he thought he •' ran the show." Cr Osborne objected to the statt* inent and hoped Mr Dad3on would be called upon to apologise. Mr Dud3on aaid he would with* draw the statement. On the motion of Cr Hennewy, j seconded by Cr Border, Mr Dudson'a explanation was accepted. The following resolutions wer« i agreed to ; — One striking a general rate and t ! Proposed by Cr Walsh, seconded by Cr \Ve«twood, That this Council make Borne provision for the success fully caacying out of Arbor Day. - Proposed by Cr Westwood, seconded by Cr Walsh, That the Mayor, Cri Border, O3born<\ Walsh, and Westwood b« a special commitUe to visit reserves and report thereon.
