On Saturday last the Foxton footballers were again defeated ; this time by the Pirates (Palmerston). The fox ton team was the strongest that has be<n put in the field for seasons past, bnt several of the men had not had a game this season, and consequently there was n-it tho slightest show of combination among the backs, and only a poor attempt at such in the forwards. Individually, the men all played w ell, but the fine rushes of the Pi*
rates, the dribbling of the forward! and Ihe passing of the backs, proywl too effective, and the game ended Pirates 9 points (three tries), Foxtor nil. However, we trust that the loca' meu will endeavour to come togethm more and pructiKe, as it wna very evident to ny witness of last Saturday's match that the Foxton men were superior to their opponent! j both in strength and pace, and it v , only a knowledge of each other's play which is wanted to enable them to hold their Own with any team in the Union The secretary has received vord that no Cap matches will be played tlext Saturday, but he is endeavouring to arrange for,, a match to be played hbtfe on tbat day. Should no outside team be able to play a match will be arranged between the captain and \ ice-captain ; the backs to be on one side aud the forward* on the oth<*« Every member of the team is requested to roll up, also any others desiring a game.
