Roman Catholic Mission.

— — . + The Roman Catholic people of this town and district have been enjoying the privilege of special mission services conducted by His Grace Archbishop Bedwood. The mission began on Thursday evening at 7 o'clock and continued till early service on Monday morning. There were three Bervices held each day, two in the morning and one in the evening; At each service the Archbishop preached, and, it is needless to say, lw discourses were characterized by rare eloquence, impressiveness, and power. The Archbishop is the ablest, as he is the highest, of the Roman Catholic prelates in New Zealand. After 11 o'clock mass on Sunday the Archbishop administered the rite of confirmation to some thirty young people, who had been carefully prepared for the solemn ceremony. The mission services throughOut were largely attended, but especially on Sunday at both morning and evening service the church was crowded to excess. The Archbishop was assisted in his arduous labours by Fathers Melu and De Lach of Ofcaki.'

The church was prettily decorated by the ladies of the congregation, ' and were all worked so well and so successfully it would be inviduous to mention a few out of the many. The design all through was ferns and chrysanthemums. The Altar was massed with coloured chrysanthemums and candles, and over the centre was an oval shaped wreath of green with the autumn flowers interwined. The windows had tree ferns niijttd on each side and on the sills j4&^>mas9HS of small ferns. Miss O'Brien played the organ at all the ; services.
