The virulence of the rinderpest to paralysing the transport work, and only mules can be employed. The troops from Natal ara expected to take two months to reach Bulu« wayo, and the Mafeking column' one month. A rising is feared in the Northern Transvaal. Private letters state that five hundred German soldiers have been imported into the Rand, and fresh trouble is expected. The rebels are using Matabele domestic servants in Buluwayo as spies. One was discovered and shot. Three forts are now garrisoned, and a body of 100 men hold the Mangwe Pass. Czonga, Lobengnla's nephew, was killed in one of the recent fights. Sir Hercules Robinson telegraphs that the whole of the country around Buluwayo is in the hands of the rebels, and that a large force will be required to dislodge them. There are only 250 men in Buluwayo, he adds, able to co-operate with the Mafeking column. At a meeting held at Buluwayo, it was officially stated that 1000 men were on the march from Mafeking, and were bringing provisions sufficient to last 3000 persons for four months.
