Too Good to be True.
The Melbourne Argui reports that a meeting was held qnder the au lspices ot the Western District Batter Factories Association to hear Mr D\ Munro explain the process by Which he claimed to be able to convert skim milk into a marketable commodity; Mr Munro remarked the average price now paid in the colony for fall cream milk was 2sd per gallon, and he claimed that by his process they could not only obtain that amount, but also an additional. 2sd a gallon for the skim milk ; consequently by doing bo he would give the colony its butter for nothing. He had made a sample of the article produced by his process from skim milk, and would demonstrate that he could make a duplicate of any Continental condensed milk guaranteed to contain full cream milk. (The sample of Mr Munro's preparation was here produced, and compared with Nestle'a Swiss milk.) He put a composition of his own into the skim milk to supply the deficiency caused by the cream having been taken out of it. The article made by him could be used for household consumption, and every other purpose for which full cream milk was used with the exception of.feeding children. It would not be recommended for that purpose, and this would be distinctly stated on the labels. About 300,000 gallons was utterly lost to the colony annually. Now, the article thus manufactured would bring in £8,200 more than the amount of cost, so there would be a very large profit. As for the market, he had no doubt concerning that, and he could take delivery of 5,000 oasea and dispose of them in London to* morrow. A committee, consisting of a representative of each factory in the district, was appointed to confer with Mr Munro, and report to another meeting.
