Distance from Foxton to Levin Station about li miles, the road going through the prettiest scenery in the district. During the nearly four years' service over the Wirokino Ferry, the mail has been delivered every day, in spite of floods. As showing THE ADVATAGE OF THIS ROUTE, even during the week of the late heavy flood, the mails and 27 passengers Were conveyed by boat and vehicles. Tbe route by boat was both safe and an enjoyable change to the passengers in fact like a picnic, and all who travelled expressed themselves well pleased with the arrangements made. On the breakdown of the railway sorvice on Easter Monday, occasioned by the heavy flood, tbis Levin route was tho only way open to passengers from Palmerston to Foxton. Five Foxton residents were driven in the Coach from Levin on Tuesday morning, 16th April, after having previously endeavoured to get over from Shannon. On Monday, the 15th April, the usual Coach was run through tbe flood to Levin as well a_ a vehicle in the afternoon to Kereru, with the Manager of the New Zealand Estates Company and the Secretary of the Wellington Freezing Company as passengers, who failed to succeed in crossing at the Shannon Ferry in the morning. The Coach leaves Whyte's Hotel, Foxtou, every week day at 5.30 a.m., for Levin, catching the train to Welliugton at 8.0 a.m. The Coach leaves Levin Hotel at 10.15 a.m. on thearrival of the train from Wellingfcon, reaching Foxton at 12.15 p.m. Passengers by this route will reach Wellington by mid-day, and at a cost, of only 17s return.
