The simple fact such a concert is to be given and for such a purpose should ensure a bumper house. Tho appointment of John McGill as Ranger is announced in this issue. The death is announced of Professor G; L. White of Fisk University. The original Jubilee Singers were endowed richly with the sweet and mellow voices that nature has given to their race, but their success as singers was mainly due to their training under the skilful and magnetic teaching of the deceased Professor. As the result of the efforts of the Jubilee singers, who made a tour of the world, £30,000 was realized which was expended in grounds and buildings for Fisk University. Professor White died suddenly on November 9, being stricken with paralysis. A memorial service was held at Fisk University, whet'e some of the original band of singers rendered some of tho old Jubilee hyras. Two burglars broke into the house of dT wealthy Jewish resident in Whitechapel, London, and murdered him, and also a domestic of the establishment. The alarm was raised, and a most exciting chase took place after the murderers. One of them jumped from the roof of the building into the street, and was injured, and removed in custody. His companion escaped. Mr Boss has bought the property of Mr Frederick Andrews at Shannon. Is this another good pettier leaving the district ? Our Shannon contemporary reports the case of a fat lamb being sold in that township for the benefit of the Brunner disaster by Dutch auction. Under "The Auo tioneers Act, 1891," sales by auction plainly includes the 'outcry' known as Dutch auction, and anyon3 selling in this manner without being licensed is liable to a penalty of not less than £10 and not exceeding £100 1 There were raoes at Feilding on Monday. "Frightening a new Governor" is the heading put by the Melbourne Age to a paragraph announcing that arrangements have been made for 20 aboriginals in war paint to form the guard of honour on the occasion of the landing of Lord Lamington at Brisbane. It is fortunate that arrangements have been made that the aboriginals have something on. Hardly their usual style. The bloated capitalist at one time was in much disfavour with the present Liberal party, and the " fat man " came in for many Billy but disagreeable remarks. Since Mr David Ziman has bought up gold mines in the South Island the Premier's Wellington paper is most joyful at the incoming of more capitalists and reports under two headlines that a Mr Leo Myers, representing a powerful South African syndicate, arrived from the Cape by the lojaio. The colony had been freed from this great and terrible nightmare, therefore he (the speaker) had telegraphed his congratulations."
