Public Meeting.

« In accordance -with the advertise* ment a public meeting, convened by the Mayor was held at the Public Hall last night. In his opening remarks the Mayor said it "was the duty of one and all to contribute their mite like they had done in similar cases. He advised lists being left at the stores and hotels. He thought the working man ehould contribute his share as well as the merchant. Mr Williams would suggest in v addition to leaving lists at the stores they should form a canvassing committee. He would suggest those* present should be one. Mr Hennessy seconded the suggestion, and would urge the division of the Borough into districts. He would *he glad to make one to cumse to morrow* afternoon. Mr Rhodes proposed that all present be a committee and arrange how to work. The Mayor regretted his absence h^from town on argent business would prevent his taking part in canvassing the town. Mr Williams motion was then put and carried. The Committee to consist of Messrs Williama, Sfcansell, Dudson, Rhodes, Hennessy, Fraser, A. S. Easton, Cowles, R. Gray, Startup and Stewart with power to add to their number. Lists to be in by Tuesday, 7th ApriL

Mr E. Cowles appointed Treasurer owing to the Town Clerk's probable absence. The Mayoi proposed a Vote of thanks to Mr Startup for the free use of the hall. A vote of thanks to the chair con* eluded the meeting.
