The Polo Tournament.

Baker, Captain of the Manawatu team, with the Savile Cup, amidst enthusiastic cheers. Mr A. E. G. Rhodes remarked that the exhibition of polo at the tournament had been the best yet seen in New Zealand, and the. play of the winners had been exceptionally briU On behalf of the visitors, he thanked the Manawatu Club for the kind treatment meted out to them during the tournament. Cheers were given for Mrs Abraham and Mr A. E. G. Rhodes, Mr Baker briefly returning thanks. The Manawatu Standard has the following particulars of the match : — From the throw-in, Manawatu got away and strongly attacked, sending the ball three times over Oroua's line, and then Mcßae hit the ball through, but play was called back owing to a cross by Oroua. In the itrike from the free hit, Manawatu scored their first goal. Manawatu 1, Oroua 0. From the throw-in Manawatu again came down, and Baker scored an easy goal. Manawatu 2, Oroua 0. Oroua rushed, and then Manawatu came again Btrongly, just missing the goal on three occasions, the spell ending with another unsuccessful one by Manawatu. The spell opened with a rush by Manawatu, and then Strang, carry* ing the ball down the field, scored a good goal for Oroua. Manawatu 2, Oroua 1. Manawatu twice rushed the ball over Oroua's line, and then Lloyd hit a pretty goal from a scramble in front of Oroua's goal. Manawatu 8, Oroua 1. After ex changes near the centre, Lloyd made a shot, and a minute later followed this up with a successful hit. Manawatu 4, Oroua 1. Shortly afterwards tba spell ended with the ball in neutral territory. Tbe spell opened with some fast play, chiefly in favour of Manawatu, and then Lloyd hit a goal from a difficult angle. Manawatu 5, Oroua 1. Rushes by Manawatu, resulting in the ball going over the line, were succeeded by an excellent stop from a hit-out by Mcßae, who had little difficulty in placing a goal. Manawatu 8, Oroua 1. A minute later the gong went with the ball in Oroua's territory. Oroua opened the spell with a fine rush, which resulted in a score in the first half-minute. Manawatu 6, Oroua 2. The game stopped fora couple of minutes through Mcßae receiving a fall, and invasions by eaoh of the other's territory were followed by some even play in the centre, when Manawatu, assuming the advantage, the last one ending the spell. Within a minute of the opening the next spell Mcßae was instrumental in Lloyd scoring the seventh goal for Manawatu. Manawatu 7, Oroua 2. Lloyd came down with a great run, but Gower saved well, and shortly afterwards McLennan had a shot, but Manawatu qnickly nullified the advantage, and McLennan waa busily engaged in saving his goal. From a determined rush Snow scored for Manawatu. Manawatu 8, Oroua 2. The score ended the spall. Manawatu continued the attack, and looked likt scoring on two occasions, and then Oroua came with a fine rush, whioh, however, was resuhless. Manawatu replied with two shots, but Oroua, playing with great gameness, made a gallant effort towards the conclusion, just missing an addition to their score.
