On Thursday the usual stock sale at Palmerston will be held by Messrs Abraham and Williams, prior to which the firm will hold a sale of polo ponies. Messrs Gorton and Son hold their Feilding sale on Friday. To-morrow tenders for repairing the Wirokino punt muit be sent in to the Borough Council by noon. Messrs Abraham and Williams hold a stock sale at Levin on Friday. The Early Settlers' pionic takes place on Friday, when all should make a point of rolling up. Poor taxpayers. Mr Seddon Bays State farms will t?e extended !
At present the lost Waterbriry watrjh has not been handed fnto this office, thus the reward will be sent back. For the flat raoe Mr McLennan's Mystery is entered. Mr Qower has entered his pony "Leo" for the Cup. The Oroua as a team have entered for the tug^of-waf, Mr A. Strang has entered "Nobbs" and " Music " for the tandem race. Mr C. E. Plunkett-Cole,! R N.R;, son of Mr Cole, of the Levin State Fai'm School, passed the Beard of Trade's examination for second mate's certificate in London on the 3rd February last. He is now serving in the New Zealand Shipping Co.'s s.s. Ruapehu — due here in a day or two — and has only lately completed four out of his five years' term of apprenticeship. Messrs Barber and Co., butchers, of Lambton Quay, Wellington, are the sueoessful tenderers for the supply of meat, and Mr H. Gills, Dixon street, for bread and vegetables, to Her Majesty's ships of war at v\ ellington. England and the United State? are negotiating over the Venezuelan dispute in an excellent spirit, and it is expected that a compromise will bo effected between the Schomburgk and the Essequibo lines. The coronation ceremonies of the Ctear, in May next, will extend over three weeks, and will be of unparalled splendour and magnificence. A brilliant triumphal entry into Moscow will be part of the pro* gramme.
