Reform of Local Government.

Mr SeddoQ touched on the subject of local government in his speech at Hokitika, and said that owing to mis-government and the excessive cost of administration it was time for a change, and legislation dealing with the subject would be brought forward again next p^feasion. This being a matter of great moment, it would probably be said that the question should be referred to the electors before legislative action was taken. He thought the principle should be discussed and the Bill put in workable order, and then, if it were thought necessary, as in the case of the Abolition of the Provinces Act, its operation oould be held in abeyance for a year until the v electors had given their opinion at the ballot-box.
