There was a fair attendance, but the absence of the totalisator no doubt prevented many from attending. The races were run punctually to time, and the weather, which looked decidedly threaten ting at timas, kept fine throughout the day. Some excellent racing was witnessed, and good finishes were the order of the day. The store* tary (Mr R. Edwards), and the officials of the club worked hard, and it is gratifying to learn that their efforts will result in the meeting being also a success financially. . Bookmakers were present in great numbers, and the majority seemed to be doing a good amount of business, speculators appreciating the odds offered by them. The first race resulted in a dead heat between Hang Fire and Blue Mountain, and after the con* elusion of the programme, the run , off resulted in Hang Fire winning rather easily in lmin.«L9fsecs., the time registered being exactly the same as in the dead heat. In the hurdle race Rossall won comfortably i from Bush Girl. Leander fell at the hurdle opposite the stand, but his i jockey (Carruthers) escaped unhurt. The Trial Hurdles was easily annexed by Te Uku, and the Sandon Handicap by Mystical, the only one to trouble the winner being Thrush, The Electric was won by the game little mare Reality, from a field of eleven. Stockade won a good race from Barossa in the Maiden Fiat, and Bush Girl was first home in the Tramway Handicap, Violet and Reality filling the' other places. A number of horses that took part in the late Himatangi meeting- were present, and the racing of some was not to be despised. A thorough enjoyable day's racing was provided for the public, no protests or disputes arising throughout the day. The privilege holders did not complain, and the public had no need to, the Marton Brass Band discoursing sweet music during the day. Following are the results : — 1.
