Early Settlers' Association.

We learn from the Secretary of the Early Settlers' Association that the, arrangements for the picnic and soi cial gathering on Friday, 27th inst., are now almost completed. The picnic will be restricted to early settlers of 20 years standing and their descendants and near relations. By the kind* ness of the Manawatu Polo Olub the beautiful polo grounds at Hokowhitu has been obtained for the picnic. Jt is intended to start in a vehicle procession to the grounds as soon as the morning trains arrive from North and South, headed by the Palmerston Brass Band. On the arrival of the procession at ibe grounds, a few short addresses will be delivered suitable to the occasion, after which sports, games, refreshments, &c, will be in* dulged in. The settlers of Palmerston and vicinity give the picnic, and invite as guests the early settlers and their families from the other parts of the Manawatu district, i.e. (Foxton, Sandon and Manchester Blocks). The social gathering at night will be held at the Volunteer DriH Hall in Main street in the form of an " At Home " so that full dress will not be required. The "At Home " will begin at 8 p.m. and will be open to the public by tickets which may be obtained from any member of the Comraitiee, viz., 6. M. Snelson (chairman), Fred. Andersen (treasurer) J. Nannestad, T. Griggg, G. Hansen, W. h. Luxford, N. Pedesen, J. 0. Nathan, and L. G. West (secretary).
