The Early Settlers.
What fine old boys and girls the early stttlers of this district are. They keep the fun up ail the time, K*fand the chickens of twenty years - residence and over are going in for a picnic on Friday, the 27th instant, at Palmer ston, at which there will be a procession t A band 1 Speeches ! ! Sports, and probably a baby show !! ! Any other pleasant little
excitement any early settler may think of will probably be put into force. In the evening there is to be a social gathering, a most proper thing to be sure, in the form of " spend the evening with us," i.e., cards, smoke oh, songo, music, dancing, recitation, a little more speech making — good supper, which will be in everybody's line, &c, &c, &c. " What a time they will have to be sure.*' Early settlers of over 20 years residence in the Manawatu district are eligible for membership, and the Secretary deßires us to request all to communicate with him.
