Mortality of Frenoh Soldier* During Madagascar Campaign. • Dr Leseire, in the onrrent number of the Anmlts tfßygiene, has been occupying himself on the subject during the Madagascar war. He finds that the deaths during tbe month of March were one per day j during April, 2 ; May, 4 ; June, 8 ; and during July, 12. At the com* menoement of August this number had increased to 24 per day, whilst iD the middle it was 30 and at the end 40. September and October gave an average of 45/ From these figures it is calculated that SO men died in Marcb, 60 in April, 240 in June, 360 in July, 240 from the Ist to tbe 10-h August, 800 from ths 10th to the 20ih, 400 from the 20th to the 80tb, and 2,700 from September l3t to October 31st, or a total of 4,450 deaths. To this number must be.^dded the deaths of soldiers who died during the voyages, in the hospitals, and after their return home, so that it would seem that the Madagascar campaign is responsible for the loss of 6,000 men on the Frenoh
