The ordinary monthly me ting wag held at the Council Chambers, Bauson, yesterday at 11.80 am. Present— (he Chairman, Cr Hansom, and Crs Robinson. Tay or, Strang, Hammond and Wil-on. Biter Hawera, saying be had a stone«cru hing machine for sale. Fr >m fcailw >y O partment, re supply of railway fastenings. From A. S. East m, Fnxton, aaking for ft renewal of slaughtering license. Fr m G S Harper and oth rs, asking the Council to metal aud widen lom^kins' Line. From H. Hinks, poandkeeper, re horses straying on roads. . ' From Bangitikii County Council, re* garding the cost of repairs needed to the traffic • ridge at Bui s. F-om T. East >n, Foxton, requesting that the name of J. Wbyte shon d be placed on tue rate ro 1 ins eaa of hiß own. From Herman A Lutze aud William Krebs, saying their partnership had been dissolved, and asking for a division of road rat-s. From Manawatu Railway Co. offering for sale a railway tricycle and a smttr locomotive engine. From the Aorangi Land Drainage Board, referring to the new bridge over the Oroua River. Proponed by Or Bobinson, secon 'od by Cr Wi son, That a renewal slaughter license be granted to A. 8, Eaeton, Foxton. Carried. Proposed by Cr Taylor, seconded, by; jCr Hammond, That the a teratiou m the rat* book asked for by Herman' A. Lutze and William Krebs b» greeted. Carried.
Proposed by Cr Taylor, seconded by Cr Hammond, That the action of Mr Cox in leasing to Mr Brady the reserve at Carnarvon be confirmed by this Council, terms to be in accordance with letter of 28th Jan , 1996. Carried. Proponed by Cr Ransom, seconded by Cr Tay'or, That the overseer be instruced to make separate estimates of metalling about 60 chains and forming Tompkins' Line as k requested by the petitioner, the same to be r laid before the Council at its next meeting. Carried. Proposed by Cr Ean«om, seconded by Cr Taylor, That tenders be called for about 50 or 60 ohains of formation on Kopani Road and C'arke Road, tenders to be in by next meeting of the Council. Carried. Proposed by Cr Wilson, seconded by Cr Eobinson, That Mr E. G. Cox be recommended aa Inspector of Slaughterhouses in the terms of " The Abattoirs and Slaughter House Act." Carried. The nsnal batch of accounts were passed for payment, and the tenders were then opened. For collection of the dox tax for 1896 the following were received : — H. Hinks, £35 2s 6d or Is 2d per dog ; J. A. MoDona d, £31 10s or 9d per dog ; H Whi -haw, £37 8s fid ot lOd per dog ; D. McGregor, Is Id per dog ; F. C. Watkins, 9d per dog ; S. Saxon, £40; W McMillan, £32. It waa proposed by Cr Robinson, seconded by Cr Masters, That the tender of s. Saxon for collection of the dog tax at £40 be accepted. Carried. The tenders for the supply and delivery of metal on the undermentioned roads were next opened as follows :— Foxton-Sandon Road, 100 yards—W. Murray, 4s per yard (accepted). Bank's Road, CampbeUtown, 100 yards— J. Mathers, 5s 9d (accepted) Campbelltown-Longbum Road, 250 yards —A. B. Bull, 4s 7d (accepted). Frecklington's Road, 100 yards— li. Henderson, 3s 9d (accepted). Awahori-Feilding Road, 150 yards—W. F. Phillips, Is lid (accepted). Lee's Road, 100 yards—W. F. Phillips, 2s 8d (accepted). The tenders received for the other metalling contracts not being considered satisfactory, Cr Masters proposed, and Cr Robinson seconded, That fresh tcndeis for Bupply and delivery of metal be calltd for Bulls fiandon and Sandon-Awahuri, TaipoAwahuri, Foxton-Shannon, Fagan's-Wil-Bon's and Bulls-Feiiding Roads. Tenders to be in by next meeting. Carried. After the dinner adjournment, Cr J. G. Wilson took the chair in plaoe of the chairman, Mr Ransom, who had 10 leave. Cr Masters also took his neat. A special meeting was he'd at which the following resolu'ion was carried : — Proposed by Cr Hammond, seconded by Cr S.rang, That a special order be now made as follows : That a special rate of one-twelfth of a penny in tho £ on the rateable value of a 1 the rateable property lying within the Waitohi Riding of this Coun y to provide interest and s'nkingfnnd on a loan of £650, obe raised under " bo Government Loans to L^ca Bodies Act, 1886," for the pnrpose of I rimming and metaling Rowe's Line, and the unmeta'led sortion of Hammond's Road be now struck, such rate tv be an annually recurring rate for 26 years, payab'o in one instalment on the Ist April ia each year. The ordinary business was th^n resumed, when Mes-rs Charts and -ames Bull waited on the Couuci. in referenoe to a claim from Mr Owpn for surveying the road through Mr James Bull's property, »nd taken over by the Council. After some consideration the matter was left in Mr Su'l's hands to arrange Proposed by Cr Wi son, seconded by Cr Masters, That the overseer report on the »— saotsaary work on tbe Feilding-Ha combe Road at the next meeting. Carried. Proposed by Cr. Robinson, seconded by Cr Hammond, That £150 be paced to the credit of the Eawatkawa Riding frdm the gsneral fund. Carried. Proposed by Cr RobJnson, seconded by Cr Wilson, That tenders bn calrd for 80 chains formation on the big drain road, tenders to be in by next meeting. Carried. Proposed by Cr Hammond, seconded by Cr Strang, That tenders be called for metaliing Rowe's Line and the nnmetaHed portion of Hammond's Line, tend rs to be mby next meeting of tho Counci . Carried. . The overseer's report was read and shewed the roads generally throughout the County to be in a fair state of repair. The report was adopted. After the Treasurer's report had been eonaidered, the Counci. adjourned to 11th March.
