On Sunday, December 22nd, the pdifcor of the New York Wot Id, Mr Pulitzer, pent a cablegram to the Bishop of Liverpool in «-he following terms ; — " Heads of churches in America to day are seeking to stem the tide of excitement which is forcing the country to war. Can you assist with a message of peace and good will to the American people." Bishop Ryle promptly replied by telegraph in the following wise and well chosen sentences :— " American excitement very sorrowful and surprising in England. No feeiing here but peaceful and brotherly. Much prayer going up." <
