Foxton Borough Council.
The usual monthly meeting was held at the Library Buildings yesterday afternoon, at 2 o'clock. Present Hia Worbhip the Mayor (G. Nye), Cr3 Oaborne, Hennessy, Walsh, and Westwood The, minutes of the last ordinary, and three special meetings were read and confirmed. The correspondence received was read. From M. A. Austin, calling attention to the bad state of drains- in Stewart street, which were blocked up. The matter was referred to the Public Works Committee on the pro*
position of Cr Westwood, seconded by Cr Hennessy. Proposed by Cr Hennessy, seconded by Cr Westwood, That the Mayor obtain a price from the contractor for any extra metal that may be required for the Moutoa road. Carried.
Proposed by Or Hennessy, seconded by Cr Osborne, That the name of Frank Gall be placed on the Borough roll in place of John Walden, as requested for section 548, Borough of Foxton. Carried.
Propsel by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Wulah, That the clerk be instructed to write to the owner of Foxton Family Hotel to remove the sand drifted on to the footpath and road, and to further abate the nuisance. Carried.
Proposed by Cr Hennessy, seconded by Cr Westwood, That Johnston street be thrown up where required, and blinded with two inches of clay. Carried.
Proposed by Cr Hennessy, seconded by Cr Osborne, That this Council again call the attention of the Go* vernment to the advantage it would be to the Government and to tht district, if the Moutoa Estate was subdivided for small settlements, and that the Mayor, Cr Walsh and the mover bo a committee to obtain information to prove to the Govern* mont the above statement. Carried.
Proposed by Cr Hennessy, se> conded by Cr Walsh, That £10 per centum be added to all rates in arrears, and will also be added to any of the current year's rates which are not paid on or before the 3rd March, 1896, and that the clerk be empowered to sue for arrears of rates. Carried.
