At a dinner of commercial gentlemen, the toast of President Cleveland's health was drunk in silence. At the request of France, the Italian Government prevented a steamer carrying 50.000 rifles for the Abyssinians from landing them in the Red Sea. One hundred wounded Armenians were thrown into a well at Orfa, and the heap was afterwards drenched with petroleum and set on fire.
