Royal Marriage Act.
A doubt having been expressed *s to the power to restrain unsuitable marriages in the Royal Fe»ily, we quote the outlines of " The Royal Marriage Act 1772." This was passed in consequence of the marriage of the Duke of Gloucester, the king's brother, with the widow of the earl Waldegrave, and of the Duke of Cumberland with the widow of Colonel Horton and daughter of Lord Irnham. By this Act, none of J the descendants of George 11, unless 4 of foreign birth, can marry under the age of 25, without the consent of the king ; at and after that age, after 12 months' notice given to the Privy Council, they may contract such marriage, which shall be good ' unless both houses of Parliament disapprove.
