The Railway Once More.
Thwib is no need to be alarmed, as the Premier assures Mr j. G. Wilson that the matter of the Levin-Great-ford railway " has not been lost sight of." Mr Wilson, and our readers, naturally believed that it had been during the busy time Ministers have had in feathering their own nests. Messrs McKenzie and Ward get £500 a year each as of the 4 Valentine ' Company, Sir Patrick Buckley has obtained a Judgeship, Mr Reeves has gone Home as AgentGeneral, and the Premier obtains an appointment on the Assets Board. Now all these matters have been attended to there are hopes that the Premier will have an hour or two to seled a competent expert. The difficulty has most likely arisen from its being a necessity to seleot the expert from the Government supporters, and doubtless many want the job. Mr Wilson has been untiring in keeping this question steadily in view of the Government, and the Premier has exhibited a masterly inactivity. Two months and a half have gone since the promise to send an expert was made and it looks as though a month or two more would h« engineered so that the forthcoming election might be conveniently worked The last letter Mr Wilson wrote was on the 6r.h instant, and on the Bth received the following reply : —In reply to your letter of 6ch inst. in reference to the proposed Levin to Greatford railway route, I have to state that the matter has not been lost sight of. The delay has been caused owing to the difficulty of getting a competent expert to report. I may add that it is not the intention of the Government to set, up a Royal Commission to report in this matter Signed. — R. J. Seddon.
