Wreck of the Halcione.
The barque Halcione has been wrpckfd nt. Wellington Head?. The N Zt Times of to-day gives the follow'ng particulars : -
The barque, under the command of Captain Boormfin, was bound from London to Wellington, and made P ncarrow light about 8.30 last night.
The vessel was close to the land, near the lighthouse, when she was struck by a heavy squall. Shortly afterward, the barque ran on the rocks in a dangerous position. There was a heavy swell at the time, and the order was at once given to " Cut away boats 1"
The mate, Mr Joynt, and five of the crew left in a hoat for Wellington, and gave information to the authorities.
The Mana left port about 3 this morning for the scene of the wrack.
Ie is feared that the barque is in a critical positiou, and that if another squall occurs thi vessel will become a total wreck.
At latest advices she is fast upon the rocks where she struck.
The boat's crew wb.6 arrived in Wellington, had considerable diffi«. culty in launching their boat.
The barque was 90 days out from London, and had no excellent pas-f-.i.:p til! sighting ihe Wellington Head?.
The cargo comprises general merchandise.
At the spot where the Halcions struck she was too far round to enable the light to be seen by those on board.
