Captain Baden Powell's native scouts have retired from their position, demanding to be armed with Snider rifles. While retiring they captured an Ashantee spy.
Information has been received from the Gold Coast that Colonel Scott, who commands the punitive expedition, has informed a local chief that the British Government intends to annex Ashantee. .
The Sultan has agreed to the demand of the Powers that the foreign Consuls at Aleppo be allowed to mediate in the Zeitoun trouble. ■■
A filibustering expedition under Portuguese has seized and is fortifying the Amapo district of Brazil, which is claimed by the French.
