Shannon Sports.

On New Year's Day the Shannon Oddfellow's Athletic Sports were held on Mr G. N. Wocd3* property. The attendance was good and the Wellington Empire Brass Band enlivened the proceedings. It is noteworthy that the Piaka contingent secured a very good share of the prizea. The proceedings passed off well no disputes marring the fun of the day. All the committee are to be congratulated on the success achieved. Following are the results : —

100 yds Maiden— Newth 1, Bar. ker 2, Terry 8.

The Oddfellows' Grand Handicap first eveut, 100 yards, £10— P. Bell 1, O'Brien 2, Terry 3.

Running High Jump— O'Brien and Fenton tied for first place at sft 7in.

Mile Handicap, of £4—o. Gardner 1, Tuck 2, Wyeth 3. Oddfellows' Grand Handicap, of 220 yds, second event— T. Clark 1, O'Brien 2, Newth 3.

Vaulting wiih the Pole — A. Tremewan 1, D Gardner 2.

Hurdle Handicap, 220 yds— H. O'Brien 1, Williams 2, Fentoo 3.

District Handicap, 220 yds — Lloyd 1, Liggins 2.

President's Handicap, 880yds— 0. Gardner 1, Haines 2, Thomas 8

Sack Race— R. Gardner, 1; F E. Wyeth, 2. Six started.

Oddfellows' Handicap, 440 yards, final beat— W. O'Brien, 1 ; T. Clark, 2 ; P. Bell, 8. The points scored in the handicap were— O'Brien 11, Clark 8, Bell 7.

Consolation Race — McKinnon, 1 ; Williams, 2 ; Liggins, 8.
