Manawatu Herald. TUESDAY, DEC. 24, 1895. To-morrow.

By all English speaking people the festival of to-morrow will be observed under all dimes and in all countries. We do not pretend to keep up all the traditions of the Old Country as everything at this season is against large gatherings in small houses and heavy feasting in melting weather. In all else, in reverence for the occasion, in heartiness of greeting, in the earnest desire to extend the hand of fellowship to all, we hold we are as sincere as those who occupy the places in the old family circles we, the colonists, have left. The colony has earned the name of being the paradise of the loafer from the kindliness of heart shown to all who appear in want or sorrow. When such sympathy is present at all seasons of the year we may be sure tßat at this Christmas-tide it does not lessen but indeed is expanded, and the poor and needy find their neighbours,

while rejoicing in plenty themselves having time to look round and notice those not ao fortunately situated. This is as it should be, aye, it is as it baa been commanded to be, and the exercise of some selfdenial, of some friendly act, will be the ma'ting of the coming holiday more enjoyable to those who abide by such teaching. To our readers we beg, iu all proper spirit, to wish, in the widest term of the words, once again, " A MerSy Christmas ajjd a Happy New Year."
