Afc the wool sales, the extreme prices of last sales have been paid, with an occasional advance. Considerable excitement has been caused by the announcement that Charles Galway, a gentleman well known in society, eloped with his brother's wife. They went to the Grand Hotel, and theje both attempted suicide. Mrs Galway eventually succumbed to her injuries, but Galway recovered. The strike on the Clyde has been settled, the men receiving an immediate advance of one shilling per week, and another shilling in February. The Belfast strikers receive a shilling advance in February. Truth states that friction has occurred between Lord Wolseley, Commander-in-Chief, and the Prince of Saxe- Weimar, which has led to the latter resigning the Presidency of the Military Tournament. The wool sales have' closed with the highest prices obtained for the series. There were 160,000 bales catalogued, of which 58,000 were sold for Home consumption, 80,000 for the Continent, and 14,000 for America, and 20,000 were held over.
