A Lady's Letter.

Wellington, Nov. 80, 1895. Mrs Ot. Hutchison gave a very pleasant dance last Friday evening. It was, I believe given as a ' Farewell ' to the Misses Bell, who leave for England next week with their father. The supper table decorations was very prettily arranged with yellow daises and grass, and yellow shaded candles. In the ballroom tall pink bulbs adorned the mantelpiece. Our hostess received in a cream brocade gown trimmed with pearl embroidery and lace. Miss Ethel Hutohison wore pale blue silk. Mrs H. D. Bell, lovely pale green and cream shaded brocade gown slightly trimmed with moss green velvet ; the Misses Bell wore white spotted muslin and coloured sashes j Lady Dorothy Boyle white spotted muslin and white silk sash ; Mrs Butt white silk with wreaths ef red flowers. Others present were the Misses Daniell, Abbott, Rose, Blair, Williams, Tripe, Gore, Butt, Hislop and Haselden. There was a large gathering out at the Polo grounds this afternoon, and some very interesting matches were played. Lady Glasgow was there, wearing a stylish grey alpacca costume and pretty .cru lace bonnet trimmed with forget-me-nots. The Ladies Boyle wore light blouses, dark skirts and sailor hats. Mrs Levin looked nice in a neat black gown trimmed with jet, feather boa, and black beefeater hat trimmed with tips and jet. Others were Mr and Mrs Baker, Mrs Menteath, Mrs and the Misses Menzies, the Misses Cooper, Mr and Mrs Baldwin, Mr and Mrs Beddard, Miss Salt, the Misses Skerrett, Miss Malcolm, etc. The newest linen collars for blouses are a high turned down shape, so that the tie cannot be seen round the neck, they are very comfortable as well as stylish. Muslins are going to be very much worn this season, figured or otherwise ; some of the new frocks I have Been are daintily trimmed with frills and flounces of lace, while others are tucked, that is, have several tuoks round the plain full skirt and the blouse bodice ornamented like wise, which, with a ribbon belt, finished off with a bow and streamers at the back, looks as nice and fresh as any thing a young girl can wear. q^Kawh lace hats are pretty, and are easily made at home; you merely buy a wire shape (although I know a friend who alwayß makes her own shapes alao^and gather the lace on as you wish, and with a bow of broad ribbon and high spray of flowers fastened on one side, a very stylish hat is completed. The hair is being dressed much higher now and baok hair nets are going out of fashion, but the fringe nets still bold their own. Sigma.
